Duke City Newsletter

Dear friends,

I am excited to share with you that I am responding to God's call to plant a new church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since leaving the Duke City in 1997, I have lived in several places, each with its own unique beauty and charm...but my heart has always yearned to return to the Southwest.

This newsletter outlines "The Duke City Project,” and how we are seeking Kingdom-minded believers and churches to support us with prayers and finances. Will you take a moment to consider how God can use you to help make our vision into a reality?

Gratefully, Dan

The ‘DNA’ of the Duke City Project

Our vision: A vibrant faith community with abundant resources to plant a number of new churches in the Albuquerque metro area.

Our mission: To establish a gospel-centered community that worships God, disciples believers, and introduces nonbelievers to Jesus Christ, all in an atmosphere of grace.

Some of our values

Centrality of the Gospel: The good news of Jesus Christ is the only hope for this world, and is the key for both the justification and the sanctification of every Christian.

Missional: We believe that the church exists not for herself, but for the glory of God and the benefit of our community. We will pursue our family, friends and coworkers with the gospel, and we will strive to ‘do church’ in such a way that both believers and nonbelievers can explore the claims of Christianity in an atmosphere of grace.

Love for our community: We seek to be a blessing to our city, not just in spiritual ways but in tangible ways as well. We will become a part of the fabric of Albuquerque and seek the favor of our community whenever possible.

Mercy Ministry: We will connect with local missions, such as Project Share and Albuquerque Rescue Mission, that effectively minister to the poor and underserved of Albuquerque. We will seek to pour human and financial resources into these organizations to extend the Kingdom of God in tangible ways.

What is the Presbyterian Church in America?

The P.C.A., founded in 1973, is one of the fastest growing denominations in the United States. According to recent statistics, the Presbyterian Church in America has 1,693 churches (includes established churches and new church plants) with over 300,000 members, throughout the United States and Canada.

The P.C.A.’s focus is found in the motto "Faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ."

Partner with us. Help make this church plant a reality!

Pray for us. Prayer is an essential element to this effort and will be invaluable to us. All of the Lord’s work begins with prayer. We will communicate prayer requests each month on our blog (http://www.thedukecityproject.blogspot.com/) and our newsletter.

Send us contacts and referrals. Introduce us to your family, friends, or other contacts in the Albuquerque area who might join our team. Please forward their names and contact information and we will respectfully reach out to them.

Join our financial support team. We are also seeking sending churches and individuals to partner with us financially over the first three years of this work. The Southwest Church Planting Network has already committed $125,000 of the needed $250,000 to begin this work, but we need to raise the remaining $125,000.

The Church Planter

To lead this work in Albuquerque, the Southwest Church Planting Network and the Southwest Presbytery have called Dan Rose to be the pastor of this plant.

Dan graduated from The University of New Mexico in 1995, married Carrie that same year, then left Albuquerque for Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando.

He graduated from RTS in 2000. Dan and Carrie have been blessed with two energetic boys, Noah and Caleb.

Dan has been privileged to serve three churches in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. It was while serving his first church, as an Associate Pastor in Northern Virginia, that Dan first began exploring church planting. He and Carrie attended the EPC’s Church Planting Assessment Center in 2003.

Recently, Dan found a real ‘fit’ for his church planting gifts and passions. In the spring of 2009, he began discussi,ns with the Southwest Church Planting Network about their plans to plant a new PCA church in the Albuquerque area. After much thought, discussion, and prayer, the Roses sensed the Lord leading them to explore this new opportunity.
